About Us

Plastic pollution matters to us, and we believe that change is possible through collective action. There is a growing interest among teenagers and young adults on environmental issues and sustainability, but many are unsure of how to advocate for change. A communication platform and more resources are needed to guide them in educating their community and reaching out to their elected officials.

As high school students in New York City, we recognized this need and created Pledge Against Plastic in 2020. We developed this site for teens and young adults who care as much about environmental issues as we do. Our goal was to inform students on the growing problem of plastic bottle consumption and provide them with the resources to be strong advocates within their community.

Teens & Young Adults:

Ready to Make a Difference

“The majority of young people feel their generation is under pressure to solve environmental issues, such as climate change and plastic pollution.”

— The Independent Newspaper

According to recent research, young people are more committed than older people to give up single-use plastics. Survey results showed that 68% of 18-24 year olds own a reusable water bottle compared with the national
average of 55%.

In a 2019 survey conducted on World Environment Day, 80% of young adults stated that they wanted to make a difference but didn’t think they were well-equipped to do so.
