Contact Your Legislators

Solving the plastic pollution problem doesn’t happen overnight but, a lot can still be done. One advocate and one bottle at a time. It is important to make your voice heard. Young advocates across the U.S. can unite in a common cause and educate others in their community to join them in taking action. Elected officials at the city, state, and federal level need to hear from our nation’s youth. Customize our sample legislative letter to who you are contacting.

At the City Level

Ideas for change start at the local level. Build a relationship with your town environmental council and contact your mayor. You can attend town meetings with your school student body or environmental club students and bring up this issue of plastic bottle consumption and recycling efforts.

At the State Level

Teens and Young adults can make their concerns known at the state legislative level. Start a petition on Change.org and write to your state governor and legislators to see what they can do to address the plastic pollution problem. Ask for their legislative support in banning the sale of plastic beverages in schools and community centers.

At the Federal Level

Washington D.C. may seem far away, but your elected representatives want to know what matters to the people who live in their district. Getting in touch with them is as easy as sending them an email with your story and your request. Tell them what you have been doing and why this environmental issues is important to you, your family, and your community.
